STAGES OF PLANT GROWTH: CLASSIFICATION
Different stages of plant development have special characteristics, which are studied in the field of phenology. Due to the diversity of approaches and wide range of applications, there is no unified classification of crop growth stages. Currently, most researchers who study phenological stages in the context of commercial agriculture recommend using the BBCH system. The BBCH classification is based on the Zadox scale, which is used to assess cereal growth. According to BBCH, there are ten main stages (numbered 0-9), which are further divided into sub-phases.

MAIN STAGES OF CEREAL GROWTH INCLUDE:

  • 0. Germination;
  • 1. Emergence;
  • 2. Reproduction;
  • 3. Growth (lengthening);
  • 4. Swelling of the leaf sheath;
  • 5. The cast;
  • 6. Flowering;
  • 7. Grain formation;
  • 8. Maturity;
  • 9. Dieback.

Since the length of the growth phases and the accompanying phenological phenomena vary in different crops, an individual scale is developed for each one.
At the same time, the BBCH scale can be used for all crops that do not have a separate classification. Based on it, individual scales can also be created for specific plant species.
